In this session, participants will learn about yoga as a lifestyle, the gray area between lifestyle & religion that colonization has created, and how the lessons of yoga can impact ways to engage with the environment, advocate for those who are disenfranchised in environmental/nature settings, and for the environment itself. Many people have become familiar with yoga as the latest exercise fad due to the colonization of yoga. In order to decolonize yoga, understanding interrelatedness to the life of a yogi, which includes care and compassion towards others and our environment, is vital.

Jillian Lain is a seasoned adjunct instructor in the sociology department at the University of Indianapolis. With her expertise as an applied sociologist, certified yoga instructor, and practitioner, Jillian brings a unique perspective of having experience as both a faculty member and a contemplative practice provider.
